An Extraordinary Petite Sirah Tasting Experience Awaits
At Guglielmo Winery, we believe great wines tell stories—of family, heritage, and the land itself. On Saturday, July 19th at 1 PM, we invite wine lovers, collectors, and explorers to our Petite Sirah Vertical Tasting, a one-day-only event featuring an exclusive lineup of this deeply expressive varietal.
From our current 2019 release to rare, cellared vintages dating back over 30 years, this vertical tasting offers a remarkable opportunity to explore the evolution of award-winning Petite Sirah, all grown sustainably from our estate vineyard in Morgan Hill, in the Santa Clara Valley.
Tasting Lineup:
1994 Estate Grown Private Reserve Petite Sirah
A rare and remarkable library wine, this 31-year-old vintage offers a timeless reflection of Guglielmo’s winemaking heritage. Harvested on October 11, 1994, with 15.75 tons crushed, it opens with refined aromas of plum, blueberry, and blackberry, lifted by a candied vibrancy and delicate mouthfeel. Subtle hints of vanilla, redwood, and cedar add warmth and elegance, while mellow tannins and a savory umami finish speak to its grace in aging.
🏅 Gold Medal – 1998 Monterey Wine Competition
880 cases produced | Bottled 5/5/98 | 13.0% Alc. | $100 per bottle
2014 Estate Grown Private Reserve Petite Sirah
Aged 11 years from harvest, this expressive vintage is a testament to both time and terroir. With 9.93 tons harvested on September 11, 2014, it earned a Double Gold Medal at the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. On the palate, layers of maraschino cherry, dry fruit leather, and savory umami unfold, framed by hints of sweet BBQ and caramelized teriyaki glaze. Bold tannins bring structure and a lingering finish to this rich, cellar-worthy wine.
🏅 Double Gold – 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
610 cases produced | Bottled 8/15/17 | 13.0% Alc. | $75 per bottle
2019 Estate Grown Private Reserve Petite Sirah
Crafted in a classic old-world style, this award-winning vintage showcases the power and finesse of estate Petite Sirah. Harvested on September 27, 2019, with 12.1 tons crushed and aged with ~10% new oak, it pours a deep burgundy hue and offers aromas of red cherry and cola. Earthy undertones, soft pepper, and a smooth, barrel-aged texture make it both approachable now and ideal for further aging.
🏅 Silver – 2024 OC Fair
🏅 Silver – 2024 Sunset International Wine Competition
🏅 Bronze – 2025 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
341 cases produced | Bottled 1/19/24 | 14.6% Alc. | $30 per bottle
2020 Estate Grown Private Reserve Petite Sirah (Event Exclusive)
Our newest release and available only on the day of the tasting, the 2020 vintage is bold, youthful, and elegantly structured. Harvested on September 13, 2020, with 11.9 tons crushed and ~14% new oak influence, it bursts with vibrant red fruit, fresh blackberry, and blueberry. Lush layers of spice, mild pepper, and a hint of BBQ sweetness make this wine both juicy and refined, with silky tannins and a long, plush finish.
387 cases produced | Bottled 8/1/24 | 14.3% Alc. | $30 per bottle
A One-Day-Only Experience
While walk-ins are welcome and no online tickets are required, this event is truly limited in scope and availability. Most wines will only be available for purchase the day of the event, making this tasting a rare opportunity to take home a piece of our winemaking legacy.
As a special touch, our winemaker and president, George Guglielmo, will be present during the tasting. George brings personal stories, historical insight, and over five decades of winemaking expertise that elevate every glass poured.
